NSW: Drugs crusader arrested for heroin trafficking report

(EDS: REPEATING WITH CORRECT DATELINE)

SYDNEY, Dec 28 AAP - A Canberra woman who received an Order of Australia medal for her
services to people with drug and alcohol problems has reportedly been charged with selling
heroin to pay for her own addiction.

Honoured this year for her years of work rehabilitating drug addicts, The Daily Telegraph
said today that Marion Watson was arrested on Christmas Eve and charged with possessing
traffickable quantities of heroin for supply.

Police told a special sitting of the ACT Magistrates Court on Boxing Day that Watson
allegedly worked for a drug delivery operation supplying heroin to the Canberra community, the
newspaper said.

ACT Magistrate Ron Cahill discharged himself from hearing the case because they had been
personal acquaintances for more than 30 years and he had once worked with her father, the
newspaper said.

Bail was refused and Watson was remanded in custody to appear in court on Wednesday, it
said.
