SA: SA power privatisation a monumental failure: academic

A researcher says the privatisation of South Australia's electricity services has been
a monumental failure.

And University of Adelaide academic JOHN SPOEHR says the privatisation will cost the
state billions of dollars.

Mr SPOEHR, who's executive director of the university's Centre for Labour Research,
says the privatisation of SA's electricity services has created unnecessary hardship for
thousands of South Australians.

And he says it's failing to address environmental problems.

Mr SPOEHR says the only ways to control spiralling power prices are introducting price
caps, abolishing the GST on essential services, and government involvement in power generation
and distribution.
